MINUTES OF August 13, 2019

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by President Mike Trainer.

OPENING CEREMONIES

Our invocation was led by Deacon J. Whitley which was followed by our Sergeant at Arms, Bill Lambrides, leading the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

SPEAKER OF THE MONTH

Our Speaker for August was Joe Gimenez of g3.  Joe explained the web site his firm has designed for the Pensioners Association and showed examples of what our new web site will look like.

REPORTS of OFFICERS

Presidents Report

President Trainer once again reminded the members of the Associations new phone number.  The number is 210-452-7553.

President Trainer asked Events committee chairman, David Perez, the status of any available trips.  David & Francis reported on both in and out of state trips and it was determined it would be best to wait until the first of the year since many of the many of the casinos are remodeling due to storm damage.

President Trainer notified the members that the September meeting will be our luncheon mail-out meeting and that Marvin Canon is in charge of the meal again this year.  September is also the month for creation of the nomination committee.

President Trainer also asked for input on speakers for our meetings.  Anyone with any suggestions please notify any board member of your suggestions.

President Trainer let the members know that the Pension Fund has allowed the Association to use a portion of the store room to place cabinets in for our records.  Currently there are records in old cabinets at Vice President Moczygemba’s home, President Trainer, Recording Secretary Gay and Treasurer Rickets all have their records at their respective homes.  The Board voted to have all of the records transferred to one central location.  The Pensioners Association purchased 2 upright double door cabinets and one horizontal 2 drawer file cabinet to place these records in.

Recording Secretary

The minutes of the, 2019 meeting were presented.  There several corrections that were corrected on screen and President Trainer suggested that when the recording secretary makes a motion or statement that the full name should be written into the minutes.

Treasurer

Treasurer Charles Ricketts reported on the most recent audit and reported that it came in as correct. Treasurer Ricketts report was considered a motion to accept, seconded by David Perez, motion carried unanimously.  Charles then reported on the Associations’ deposits and expenses and gave a detailed explanation of monies in all accounts. Treasurer Ricketts made available the treasurers report and bank statements for anyone to view if they wished to.

Corresponding Secretary – Fire

David Perez reported that he sent out 4 sympathy cards to the families of Allen Helmke, Doris Campa, Ernestine Cervantes and John Alexander.

Corresponding Secretary – Police

Armando Ynostrosa reported that he sent out 10 sympathy cards to the families of Val Garza, John Toscano, Sidney Mitchel, Ralph Looney, Weldon Stinson, Desiree Welborn, Yvette Gonzales, Doris Campa, Stacie Porter-Norton and police friend Richard Villanueva, founder of Creswell Wrecker Service. 

REPORTS of COMMITTEES

Pension Fund Committee

Larry Reed and Harry Griffin were both present.  Larry reported that the fund is at 3.22 Billion which is up 7.5% YTD.  Latest inflation numbers are 1.1% YTD which if projected out could reach 2 -2.5% by the end of the year.  Larry also reported that Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia was appointed to the board by the city, replacing Art Hall.  The next Board meeting is Wednesday August 28, 2019, and Active Police Trustee Jim Smith is now the Board Chairman.

Harry Griffin reported that the Fund honored the oldest retiree from each department at the last meeting, Manuel Vela, retired Firefighter, is 99 years old and Jimmy Gaffney, retired Police, is 96 years old.  Harry then gave some of the statistical information about the Fund.

1995 there were 2901 members paying into the Fund

1995 we had 1167 Retirees

2018 there were 4042 members paying into the Fund 

2018 we had 2779 Retirees

2003 there were 1983 Police officers

2003 there were 1432 Firefighters

2018 we have 2264 Police Officers

2018 we have 1778 Firefighters

SAPD actually declined in members from 2015-2017

Average pension in 2004 was $2663

Average Pension in 2018 was $4281

Larry Reed made a final report that his Wife was present at today’s meeting and that they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in a couple of days.

Pre-Funded Health Insurance Committee

Henry Trevino reported that the Health Fund was at $396,020,215.15

PAC Treasurers Report

PAC Treasurer, Don Wagoner, reported on the income and expenses of the PAC and gave the balance in the account.  Don made the bank records available if anyone wished to look at them.

DOOR PRIZES

There were 3 additional door prizes donated by Armando Ynostrosa of Expressions Designs for $10 each to Taco Cabana.  This month’s winners were M. Whitley, J. Carrillo, R. Martinez, D. Perez,   E. Gay, D. Gay, D Wagoner, H. Trevino and J. Teran

ADJOURNMENT

After the door prizes were given, President Trainer adjourned the meeting without opposition.
