ZOOM VIRTUAL MEETING OF February 09, 2021

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by President Mike Trainer.

OPENING CEREMONIES

Our invocation was led by Rev. A.D. Smoot which was followed by President Trainer leading the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

There were 7 board members were present for the February 09, 2021 meeting.

REPORTS of OFFICERS

Presidents Report

President Trainer reported that Danny Diaz was elected as President of the SAPOA.

President Trainer also reported that the “Fix SAPD” petition to end collective bargaining was accepted by the city clerk and the issue will be on the ballot at the next election.  There were not enough signatures to bring a vote on the Civil Service issue.

Recording Secretary

The minutes of the January 12, 2021 meeting were presented.  There was one date correction and no additions or deletions noted.

Treasurer

Treasurer Charles Ricketts reported on the Associations’ deposits and expenses and gave a detailed explanation of monies in all accounts.  Treasurer Ricketts reported on the Audit for July-December 2020 and Ms. Baer gave the audit a view of accurate.  Motion by Earnest Gay, second by David Alonzo to accept the audit and treasurers reports, motion passed without opposition.

Corresponding Secretary – Fire

David Perez reported he sent out 6 sympathy cards and 1 get well card over the previous month.

Corresponding Secretary – Police

Armando Ynostrosa reported he has sent out 1 sympathy card over the last month.

REPORTS of COMMITTEES

Pension Fund Committee

Larry Reed reported that Board member Clayton Perry had contracted Covid-19 and was now at home recovering after a hospital stay.

Larry also reported that the fund was at $3.67 Billion which is $334 million increase for FY 2020.  This is a 10% increase for the year and only 5% was needed to issue a 13th check.  Larry reports the item is on the agenda for the February 2021 board meeting and looks promising to pass. 

The COLA for 2020 was 1.4% and 1.1% dividing date is 10-01-1999

The 1099 forms have been mailed, if not received, call the office for a replacement. 

The Pension office remains closed until February 28, 2021.  Call for an appointment if you need personal contact services.

A request was made to check on the possibly of a 14th check.

Pre-Funded Health Fund Committee

Henry Trevino reported the fund is at $461,257,090.60 which is up $6.094 million. 

James Bounds reported that the Clinics will not be getting any of the covid-19 vaccine and our members should look elsewhere for the vaccine.

The new Health Fund website is up and available at www.thefundsa.org [note: the previous URL address was changed from the original minutes because the Healthcare Fund changed its URL address]

The issue of widows /widowers retaining coverage would negatively affect the fund by a -0.24% so the board cannot approve it.

PAC Fund Committee/ Endorsement Committee

Bart Moczygemba reported on the police collective bargaining issue and advised the PAC will probably help the SAPOA with funds to get the message out on the importance of collective bargaining to attract quality applicants.

PAC Treasurers Report

PAC Treasurer, Don Wagoner, reported on the income and expenses of the PAC and gave the balance in the account.  Don had SAFPPA treasurer read the audit report from Ms. Baer.  Motion to accept the audit and PAC treasurer reports was made by Larry Reed, second by Don Wagoner.  Motion Passed without opposition.

GOOD AND WELFARE

Clayton Perry called President Trainer and spoke with the members present and advised he is recovering and doing well remotely from home.

ADJOURNMENT

At 2:44 pm President Trainer announced our next meeting will be March 9, 2021 at 1:30pm and adjourned the meeting without opposition.
