ZOOM VIRTUAL MEETING OF June 08, 2021

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by President Mike Trainer.

OPENING CEREMONIES

Our invocation was led by President Trainer which was followed by our members reciting the pledge of allegiance.

SPEAKER OF THE MONTH

Doris Hurtado from QCD America spoke about the Hearing discount plan they have now for their members.

REPORTS of OFFICERS

Recording Secretary

The minutes of the May 11, 2021 meeting were presented.  There were no corrections, additions or deletions noted.

Treasurer

Treasurer Charles Ricketts reported on the Associations’ deposits and expenses and gave a detailed explanation of monies in all accounts.

Corresponding Secretary – Fire

David Perez reported he sent out 2 sympathy cards during the previous month.

Corresponding Secretary – Police

Armando Ynostrosa reported he sent out 2 sympathy cards and 1 get well card during the previous month. 

Presidents Report

President Trainer reported on the executive board meeting.  Members of the board would like to return to in person meetings beginning in July.  Larry reed reported he will have the item on the agenda for the upcoming pension board meeting. 

President Trainer also reported that we will send out a newsletter by the end of the month to inform members of what has been going on.

REPORTS of COMMITTEES

Pension Fund Committee

Larry Reed reported that the fund is at 3.88 billion which is up 200 million YTD.  This is a 5.48% increase.  The funds benchmark is 7.25% and this year needs to have a 4% increase to consider the 13th check.  Approx. 14% is needed to consider the 14th check. The Pension Board elected new officers, Jim Smith is Chairman, Dean Pearson is vice-chairman and Clayton Perry is Secretary.  Inflation is at 2.1% YTD.  Jim Smith and Larry Reed were both elected positions at the TEXpers conference.  Next board meeting is Wednesday June 30, 2021 at 9am.

Pre-Funded Health Insurance Committee

Henry Trevino reported the health fund is at $506,310,189.88 which is up 4.8% YTD.  James Bounds announced the Rodgers Rd. location is 5320 Rodgers Rd.  Bldg. 4 and construction should begin in August as ground breaking just began.   Telemed/conference will continue to be covered thru the end of 2021 and the board is studying how telemed should be handled in the future.  Larry Reed brought up Covid testing at the clinics when someone comes in for blood work.  James reported he has been in contact with Health by Design to explore that option. 

PAC Fund Committee/ Endorsement Committee

Bart Moczygemba reported on the winners of the city council runoff race. 

District 1 – Mario Bravo defeated Roberto Trevino

District 2 – Jalen McKee-Rodriguez defeated Jada Andrews-Sullivan

District 3 – Phyllis Viagran defeated Tomas Uresti

District 5 – Teri Castillo defeated Rudy Lopez

District 9 – John Courage Defeated Patrick Von Dohlen

PAC Treasurers Report

PAC Treasurer, Don Wagoner, reported on the income and expenses of the PAC and gave the balance in the account.  Recording Secretary Gay asked Don how many members are PAC contributors.  Don reported that just over 300 are currently contributing. Suggestion was made to include PAC membership in the newsletter.

ADJOURNMENT

President Trainer adjourned the meeting without opposition.
