ZOOM VIRTUAL MEETING OF March 09, 2021

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM by President Mike Trainer.

OPENING CEREMONIES

Our invocation was led by Rev. A.D. Smoot which was followed by our President, Mike Trainer, leading the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

SPEAKER OF THE MONTH

SAPOA president Danny Diaz spoke on the Police Associations need of help in the coming election with block walking and poll booth attendance.

Councilman Clayton Perry also spoke and advised that there are 4 candidates running against him in the coming election.  Clayton thanked us for our continued support.

REPORTS of OFFICERS

Presidents Report

President Trainer reported on the SAFPPA PAC having a meeting on Wednesday 3-10-2021 at 8am. President Trainer also reported on 2 other local and state meeting coming up.

Recording Secretary

The minutes of the February 09, 2021 meeting were presented.  There were no corrections, additions or deletions noted.

Treasurer

Treasurer Charles Ricketts reported on the Associations’ deposits and expenses and gave a detailed explanation of monies in all accounts.

Corresponding Secretary – Fire

David Perez was excused and his report was read by Recording Secretary Earnest Gay.  David sent out 3 sympathy card and 2 get well cards during the previous month.

Corresponding Secretary – Police

Armando Ynostrosa reported He had sent out 2 sympathy cards and 2 get well cards during the past month.  D. Alonzo reported that his mother who had been ill passed away and thanked everyone for their prayers during her illness.

REPORTS of COMMITTEES

Pension Fund Committee

  1. Larry Reed reported that the Pension fund approved a 13th check based on 2020 returns.  Trustee councilman Clayton Perry motioned to issue the check, second was made and passed unanimously.  Check is slated to be paid 3-12-2021. 
  2. Larry also reported the fund was at 3.76 Billion which is up 90 million YTD.  This represents a 2% increase so far this year.
  3. The Pension office is now open and the staff is asking that appointments be made to come in and if possible, to conduct business remotely.
  4. Larry reports that the retirement plaques that are normally give out at the April and May meetings will be postponed until a later date.
  5. The next retirement seminar will be Friday April 02, 2021 at 9:30am.
  6. The Next board meeting is scheduled for March 31, 2021 at 9:30 am.
  7. Larry reported that the Board Chairman Jim Smith had surgery to remove his appendix and is at home recovering.
  8. The Fund will have Trustee elections coming up for active Fire, active Police and retired Fire positions.  Positions are currently held by Pearson, Foster and Reed. 
  9. Larry advises that for FY 2021 the fund will need to preform at +4.5% to consider a 13th check and will need +14.5% to consider a 14th check
  10.  

Pre-Funded Health Insurance Committee

No report for March.

PAC Fund Committee/ Endorsement Committee

PAC chairman Bart Moczygemba reported on a PAC meeting 3-10-2021 at 8am and they will be discussing the upcoming city election.

PAC Treasurers Report

PAC Treasurer, Don Wagoners’ report was given by Vice President Bart Moczygemba on the income and expenses of the PAC and gave the balance in the account.
