REPORTS of COMMITTEES
Pension Fund Committee
Larry Reed reported that the fund is atm3.041 billion which is up 20 million which is approx. 2% YTD. The fund needs s5% or greater to consider the 13th check. Inflation for the year is 0.7%. The Legislative package drafted by the fund has the approval of the FUND, SAPOA, CITY and the SAFPPA. The Fire Union however has sent a letter of opposition to the city council, no immediate reason has been given. It was noted that by law the Fund cannot increase benefits until it reaches 90% funding. We are currently at about 88%. The recent pre-retirement seminar was held at the Shrine Auditorium due to Covid19 and distancing requirements not being able to be met at the Funds meeting room. There were approx. 120 Police & spouses and approx. 30 Firefighters and spouses in attendance.
Pre-Funded Health Insurance Committee
Henry Trevino reported that the fund is at $421,102,006.31. The Audit of the fund was good and there was also an actuary study done which shows the unfunded liability between 30-40 years. Affecting the actuary is the lowering of the rate of return being lowered to 7%, members retiring earlier and younger. This along with lower than anticipated incomes added to the liability. The 2021 claim forms and packet information is being processed by the Fund and should be mailed soon. The increases in cost to the members for 2021 are
Medical Deductible — $903
Medical out of Pocket — $1325 (80-20)
Rx out of Pocket — $1200 (80-20)
Dependent contribution will be $546.77
PAC Fund Committee/ Endorsement Committee
Bart Moczygemba reported that the PAC agreed to give the SAPOA-PAC $8000 to help with expenses at the polls during the past election.
