Make your voice be heard — Stop the defund movements

There is loud but small group attempting to defund and repeal bargaining for SAPD families at City Council. If these groups are successful in defunding and repealing our rights under 143 and 174, the long term impacts to our retiree healthcare and pension fund could be devastating as well as the consequences to the morale and welfare of our police work force.

To stop this movement, the silent majority needs to rise up and start letting their voices be heard to put a stop to this nonsense of defunding our police. Retirees can play a huge role in helping.

This link https://publicsafetyfacts.com/policebudget/  sends the mayor and every city council member an email asking them not to redirect nor defund the police budget. If you do not wish to place your home address on the post, you can use the location of a substation closest to your residence. The message is what is important.

This second link https://sanantonio.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx is to the city council agenda meetings. It lists all council meetings and agenda items. On the far right side of the meeting dates you will find a “ecomment” link. Please open that link and fill out the comment section and place statements to support the police and state “No to defunding” and “No to repealing Civil service 143 and Collective Bargaining 174.” You may also copy and paste the comments from the first link regarding the budget and drop them into the ecomment section of council meetings.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated…

Annual Luncheon — POSTPONED

Our Executive Board has postponed our annual luncheon, originally scheduled for October 14, 2020, due to the uncertainty of how many members would be allowed to gather.

Over the last two years we have hosted between 700-800 members. This number greatly exceeds the number of people which the state is allowing for this type of event.

We will announce a new date for the luncheon once restrictions are lifted and the Executive Board agrees the Luncheon can be safely attended by all members who wish to attend.

The planning committee for the luncheon needs approximately 90 days prior to the event to get all the supplies, notices and RSVP’s. Please bear with us as we work to reschedule the luncheon as soon as possible.
