November 8 Meeting of the SAFPPA

It’s voting day on Tuesday November 8!

Yes, the polls are open for state, federal and local elections, but so too will the SAFPPA have elections at its member meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the pension fund. We will vote on the positions of Vice President, Recording Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms and Corresponding Secretary for Firefighters.

SAFPPA Political Action Committee List of Supported Candidates

The San Antonio Fire and Police Pensioners’ Association, in accord with its bylaws, operates a political action committee to collect and disburse PAC fund money for supporting the political program set forth by the SAFPPA. The PAC may make monetary contributions (according to Article VIII, Section 2, G, 11) to those candidates that support the values of the SAFPPA membership. It is a duty of the SAFPPA-PAC Chairman or his designee to keep the Executive Board, and the membership of the SAFPPA informed of the SAFPPA-PAC activities.

As such please be advised that the SAFPPA PAC is supporting the following candidates in the upcoming election on November 8. The candidates will support the Pension and Health Care Fund initiatives.

Nominations being accepted for Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary (Fire), Sergeant-at-Arms; Election Nov. 8

The San Antonio Fire & Police Pensioners Association is announcing the formation of the Nominating Committee to search for and seek out members that would like to run for one of the positions on the Executive Board. 

All nominations must be in by Tuesday, October 11, 2022, 1:30 p.m. at the regular monthly meeting in October. The election will be held at the at the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 08, 2022. Term in office will begin with the January 2023 meeting. This year the positions up for election are:

Vice President:

Duties are: Be a Signatory on SAFPPA checks, preform duties of the President when President is not available

Recording Secretary:

Duties are: Be a signatory on SAFPPA checks, Record, transcribe and present minutes of all general, board and special meetings, keep a record of the membership database by posting monthly dues, updating new retirees, and updating files of members who have passed, Setup and coordinate the annual luncheon (reserve the venue, procure caterer, produce & mail announcements, compile RSVP list, etc.) Give report to the membership at each monthly meeting.

Corresponding Secretary Fire:

Find information on retiree wellness and send out get-well and sympathy cards.  Report findings at the monthly meetings

Sergeant-at-Arms:

Keep and restore order at monthly meetings, set up US & Texas flags before each meeting.

Candidates for all positions will need to be available to attend all general, special and board meetings. Term is for 2 years.

This years Nominating Committee is Earnest Gay- chairman, Michael Despres and Jerome Whitley.

The list below, updated September 19, confirms that SAFPPA received your RSVP for the October 5 Luncheon. Take a look to see which of your friends are coming also. The RSVP period for the fall luncheon has ended.  Thanks for all who contacted us wishing to attend.  This will be our largest luncheon to date with 1,001 members and guests signed up to attend.  Doors will open at 11 a.m. and serving will begin at noon.
